How is traffic around Denver?
I'll be flying into Denver soon, driving down to Colorado Springs. My flight arrives around 2:30 in the afternoon on a Monday. I'm not too concerned about getting down there at a particular time, so I'm willing to avoid the toll road. What kind of traffic should I expect? I've been in several extremes, from complete stop for hours to 70+ MPH bumper to bumper, so I'm fairly confident I can handle it, I'd just like to know in advance what to expect. Thank you.

Traffic is bad during rush hour, but usually not a problem otherwise. If your flight is on time and you're on the road and out of the Denver area before 4 PM you should be OK. If your flight is late, I'd strongly consider the E-470 toll road you mentioned you want to avoid. I've never seen major traffic on E-470, even during rush hour.

I would agree with the fact that if you can get on the road asap, then go for it down 225 to I70. However, I would say that traffic starts to get REALLY bad out there by the airport around 3:30 pm.

They say we have the third worst traffic in the country, but you'll survive. Personally, I don't think it's that bad compared to California & other crazy places. You'll definately make it to the Springs before sundown. Quite possibly before dinner time.

Traffic is really bad after 3 pm. The problem is all the narrow roads. Denver is a very compact city, and you will have to paralel park everywhere. If you get up early, before 7 am, traffic is light. Take the toll road, it will save you headaches. The roads can be confusing, even for Denverites.
