What was Muhammad Abu Tahir up to on AirTran Airways Flight 39?
He was reported to have been “drunk†last week on the plane that was diverted. Do you buy that? Just asking: A charge of interference with a flight crew is likely to be filed Monday against Muhammed Abu Tahir, whose allegedly disruptive behavior led to an Atlanta to San Francisco airline flight being diverted to Colorado Springs, the U.S.attorney’s office in Denver said Saturday. Spokesman Jeff Dorschner said that, if convicted, Tahir could face up to 20 years in prison. A law enforcement source told The Denver Post that Tahir, who turns 47 today, is a Pakistani national who has been in the United States for “quite some time†— since at least 2002. The source said investigators are attempting to determine Tahir’s profession. According to El Paso County Jail booking information, Tahir is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 172 pounds. He lives in Glen Allen, Va., a suburb of Richmond, Va. Tahir began his trip Friday in Richmond, and changed planes in Atlanta, boarding AirTran Airways Flight 39. According to AirTran, Tahir, who was allegedly intoxicated, became disruptive and irate with a flight attendant. …Kathy Wright, spokeswoman for the FBI in Denver, said agents are investigating allegations that Tahir grabbed a flight attendant and that he also removed his shoes during the incident. Still no more word from the State Department on what his exact immigration status is http://michellemalkin.com/2010/01/11/what-was-muhammad-abu-tahir-up-to-on-airtran-airways-flight-39/

Careful, your racism (or paranoia) is showing. How many white Americans get drunk on airplanes every year and end up in the same trouble? Just because he's Asian does not mean he's a suicide bomber. I always remove my shoes during a long flight, doesn't everyone else? Your feet swell when you are flying. That's why they provide you with those slipper socks when you fly business or first.

Hmmmm, Not sure what gives here,...Maybe Tahur was celebrating EARLY his birthday, and was up to his 10th. "kamikazi', so he became high handed with the cute hostesses..( wouldn`t mind handling some of `em myself)..Why he took his shoe off?..Who knows, maybe his toes were cramped, or maybe he wanted to toss his shoe at a guy across the aisle a la George Bush style...But 20 years in slammer is little too much for assumption that he might have had some terrorist act on his mind.

Going by this story.Flight crews and air marshals say Middle Eastern men are staking out airports, probing security measures and conducting test runs aboard airplanes for a terrorist attack. At least two midflight incidents have involved numerous men of Middle Eastern descent behaving in what one pilot called "stereotypical" behavior of an organized attempt to attack a plane. "No doubt these are dry runs for a terrorist attack," an air marshal said. Pilots and air marshals who asked to remain anonymous told The Washington Times that surveillance by terrorists is rampant, using different probing methods. "It's happening, and it's a sad state of affairs," a pilot said. A June 29 incident aboard Northwest Airlines Flight 327 from Detroit to Los Angeles is similar to a Feb. 15 incident on American Airlines Flight 1732 from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to New York's John F. Kennedy Airport. The Northwest flight involved 14 Syrian men and the American Airlines flight involved six men of Middle Eastern descent. "I've never been in a situation where I have felt that afraid," said Annie Jacobsen, a business and finance feature writer for the online magazine Women's Wall Street who was aboard the Northwest flight. The men were seated throughout the plane pretending to be strangers. Once airborne, they began congregating in groups of two or three, stood nearly the entire flight, and consecutively filed in and out of bathrooms at different intervals, raising concern among passengers and flight attendants, Mrs. Jacobsen said. One man took a McDonald's bag into the bathroom, then passed it off to another passenger upon returning to his seat. When the pilot announced the plane was cleared for landing and to fasten seat belts, seven men jumped up in unison and went to different bathrooms. This is serious stuff.
